The deadlines to submit your Community Green Grant idea are as follows:
- San Francisco: October 19, 2012
- Los Angeles: October 26, 2012
No idea is too small or too big, but to be considered, an idea must be local, innovative and actionable. Before each festival, a panel from Green Festivals and Ford Motor Company will select a group of Community Green Grant finalists to present their project proposals in the Ford Pavilion at each festival.
Festival attendees will then be able to vote on their favorite project idea, votes will be tallied on-site, and the winner will be announced on Sunday afternoon.
Check out our Community Green Grant winners from this spring in NYC and Chicago:
The receipient of the Ford Community Green Grant at NYC Green Festival was local nonprofit, Green City Force! The Green City Force team was on hand to accept the award, which will be used to engage young adults to serve and train on an urban farm on NYCHA property in Red Hook, in partnership with NYCHA and Added Value. Corps Members (CMs)–all NYCHA residents from Red Hook and nearby—will gain marketable skills while educating children about nutrition and expanding access to fresh foods.
In Chicago, Community Outreach Coordinator Jenni Schneiderman was on hand to accept the Community Green Grant for the Academy for Global Citzenship. The grant is currently being used to fund summer camp sponsorship for kindergarten through fourth graders in a robust program that includes applied math, science, technology and language arts, as well as working towards building a farmer's market, supplied by the school garden.
