Huge Response to New Green Business Awards

With nearly 250 applications received in the contest to win three $5,000 People & Planet awards this summer, Green America’s judging panel is busily narrowing the field to ten worthy finalists to be put to a public vote in August.

“All of the nominations we received were impressive in their commitment to using green businesses to advance sustainability goals at the local community level,” said Andrew Korfhage, coordinator of the award process.  “We saw solar-powered coffee houses that donate their coffee grounds for compost, wind-powered clothing-design firms using recycled fabrics, organic farms that donate surplus to local food banks, and more.”

Green America's People & Planet Award: New quarterly award program for mission-driven, green entrepreneurs

Our new business award program offers a chance for your business to win $5,000 as a reward for your outstanding achievement in social and environmental responsibility.

Thanks to a generous donation by one of our long-time supporters, Green America is now offering a $5,000 award to each of three green-business winners every quarter. That's a total of $15,000 every season to boost the green economy! The businesses must be small (50 employees or fewer) and demonstrate excellence in a facet of the green economy that we will announce each quarter.

For our first round of awards, we're focusing on green businesses that also feature a community-action component to their work. Green America will reveal the top-ten finalists and launch public voting for the three winners on Thursday, August 2.
