Green America's People & Planet Award: New quarterly award program for mission-driven, green entrepreneurs 

Thanks to a generous donation by one of our long-time supporters, Green America is now offering a $5,000 award to each of three green-business winners every quarter. That's a total of $15,000 every season to boost the green economy! The businesses must be small (50 employees or fewer) and demonstrate excellence in a facet of the green economy that we will announce each quarter.

This summer, we're focusing on green businesses that also feature a community-action component to their work. Examples would include: a green cafe that donates organic waste to a local composting program, or a solar installer with a program giving job-experience to local at-risk youth, or an organic farm that donates produce to the local homeless shelter. The possibilities are many, and we can't wait to hear all the great stories about how businesses across the country are stepping up their commitment to being green -- good for both people and the planet. The nominations period will be open through Monday, July 9. Then, our panel of expert judges* will narrow the field to 10 businesses, and we'll e-mail the list of ten finalists for three People & Planet Awards to you at the beginning of August so you can help us choose the winners.
