Colorado Members Support Benefit Corporations

As benefit corporation legislation works its way through Colorado, we sent a business sign-on letter to the State House of Representatives. The letter supported this new form of legal incorporation that takes social and environmental concerns into account alongside financial goals.

The benefit corporation structure is in contrast to most corporate structures that require corporations to prioritize the financial interests of shareholders over the interests of workers, communities, and the environment. States that currently allow benefit corporations are: CA, HI, MD, NJ, NY, VA, VT.

Thanks to several of our Colorado business members for their support: BeginAgainToys; Earth Friendly Coffee Company; Natural Investments, LLC; Slowcolor; Taiga Company, LLC; Earthly Ideas, LLC

While the bill was initially defeated, it was then allowed to be reconsidered during a “special session," and we will continue to support passage of the bill.
