    • parabens or paraben preservatives; (chemicals ending in methyl, propyl, butyl, and ethyl)
    • petroleum variations including: mineral oil, petrolatum, paraffin
    • PG or sodium laurel sulfate
    • any ingredient of 7 and above on Environmental Working Group list (EWG)
    • nitrosamines (a group of potent carcinogens)
    • synthetic alcohols, fragrances, and dyes
  • No nanotechnology – Green America is utilizing the Precautionary Principle until further research is complete on this topic (see resource articles below)
  • Agree to or already signatory to Campaign for Safe Cosmetics and submitted ingredients 
  • No animal testing and/or acquired Leaping Bunny cruelty-free certification 
  • List ingredients online and on label/product
  • Scented with only natural essential oils; discussion of synthetics and dangers posed by their use on website
  • No chlorine bleaching
  • No animal testing
  • Use of organic cotton balls, swabs, and tampons

Preferences

  • All ingredients listed with EWG
  • In formulating sunscreen, use only mineral
  • Use of Fair Trade ingredients (shea butter, olive oil)
  • No animal-derived ingredients (lanolin, honey, milk, stearates)
  • Use of local sourcing of ingredients (beeswax)
  • Maximizes use of recyclable/recycled packaging
  • Offers opportunity for refills or receives containers such as bottles for reuse
